The Miao ethnic group accounts for over 98% of the population in Taijiang County, earning it the title of "The No. 1 Miao County in the World", with a rich ethnic flavor. The cultures of the 9 Miao ethnic branches within the territory each have their own unique characteristics. There are 9 national intangible cultural heritages such as the Miao Sisters' Festival, the Tuodong single-Log Dragon Boat, and the Fan Pai Wooden Drum Dance. There are 36 national traditional villages. It has been listed by the United Nations as one of the top ten cultural and tourist attractions in the world that "return to nature and simplicity". Here, there are exquisite Miao embroidery and ingenious silver ornaments and finery, earning the title of "Hometown of Miao Embroidery in China" in the Tang Dynasty. Here, there are Miao grand songs - Fanpai Polyphonic and Fangzhao Love Song, which won the gold medal in the 2003 Western Folk Song Competition. Fan Qi is a resource newly added by UNESCO as a "Representative Work of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity". Here, there are thrilling battles between cattle and dogs, exciting dragon and flower dances, passionate and unrestrained sheng and drum dances, a vast array of literary songs, and unique and romantic marriage and love customs.
